“In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.”
What does Mark 1:9 mean?
Jesus left his home in Nazareth and traveled to where John was baptizing people in the Jordan River. Even though Jesus was without sin, he joined the crowds being baptized, identifying himself fully with humanity and its need for repentance. This moment marks the beginning of his public ministry, and it shows us that Jesus didn't set himself apart or consider himself too holy to stand alongside ordinary people in their spiritual journey. The baptism was a turning point, after which Jesus would begin teaching and healing throughout the region.
