What does Mark 1:8 mean?
John the Baptist is drawing a clear line between his own ministry and Jesus's coming work. John's baptism was outward and symbolic, a sign of people's desire to turn from sin and prepare their hearts, but it couldn't transform them from the inside. Jesus, by contrast, would do something far deeper and more powerful: fill people with God's own Spirit, actually changing their hearts and giving them new life.
