What does Malachi 3:14 mean?
The people in Malachi's time are exhausted and disillusioned. They've been faithful, following God's law carefully and living with sincere devotion ("walking mournfully" means approaching God with the seriousness the moment deserves), yet their circumstances haven't improved. They're asking the hard question many of us face in difficult seasons: if serving God doesn't lead to visible rewards or relief, what's the point?
