Malachi 2:13
“This again you do: you cover Yahweh’s altar with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn’t regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.”
What does Malachi 2:13 mean?
The prophet Malachi is describing people who go through the motions of worship, but their hearts are somewhere else entirely. They're bringing offerings to God's altar while their lives tell a different story, and they sense that something is broken in their relationship with Him. Their tears and sighs show they feel the distance, yet they don't seem to understand why God isn't pleased. This speaks to a hard truth: God cares more about who we are becoming than about what we perform for Him. When our worship is disconnected from how we actually live, God sees the gap. If we're showing up religiously while treating others badly, making false promises, or honoring Him only with words, we shouldn't be surprised when our prayers feel hollow. The good news is that recognizing this disconnect, as painful as it is, can be the beginning of real change.
