Luke 9:60
“But Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce God’s Kingdom.””
What does Luke 9:60 mean?
A man has just asked Jesus if he can delay following him until after his father dies and receives a proper burial, something deeply important in Jewish culture. Jesus's response sounds harsh at first, but he's making a point about priorities and trust. He's saying that the regular concerns of life will take care of themselves, but the opportunity to participate in God's work is urgent and irreplaceable. This doesn't mean Jesus disrespected family obligations or grieving, but rather that spiritual commitment can't be indefinitely postponed by waiting for the "perfect time." When you encounter a genuine call to serve God, that invitation itself becomes the most important thing to respond to. Everything else will work out, but only if you actually step forward with what you've been asked to do.
