Luke 8:27
“When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn’t live in a house, but in the tombs.”
What does Luke 8:27 mean?
When Jesus arrived on the shore after crossing the lake, he immediately encountered someone whose life had been devastated by spiritual oppression. This man had been tormented by demons for so long that he'd been driven away from normal life, living naked among the burial caves outside the city, cut off from community, shelter, and dignity. Luke is showing us someone at the absolute bottom, broken in every way a person can be broken. What makes this moment significant is simply that Jesus encountered him there, in that desolate place, which tells us something profound about who Jesus came for.
