For John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’

What does Luke 7:33 mean?

Jesus is describing how people criticized John the Baptist for his austere lifestyle, assuming his strict asceticism meant he was spiritually unbalanced or even possessed. John had chosen a disciplined, simple way of living in the wilderness as part of his calling to prepare people for Jesus' arrival. Yet instead of respecting his dedication, people dismissed him as strange or mentally unstable. The point Jesus makes is that people will find fault with authentic spiritual commitment no matter what form it takes, which prepares his listeners for the fact that they'll reject him too, though he'll live very differently than John did.
