Luke 7:30
βBut the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God, not being baptized by him themselves.β
What does Luke 7:30 mean?
The religious leaders of Jesus's time refused to accept John the Baptist's message and the path of repentance he was calling people toward. By rejecting John's baptism, they were essentially rejecting God's own plan unfolding right in front of them. Their pride and certainty in their own righteousness made them unable to see what God was doing, while ordinary people were opening their hearts to change. Luke is showing us how expertise and status can sometimes become obstacles to faith if they make us too confident in ourselves.
