What does Luke 7:3 mean?

A Roman military officer whose servant was seriously ill had heard enough about Jesus to believe he might help. Rather than go directly himself, the officer asked respected Jewish leaders to make the request on his behalf, probably out of respect for their community and awareness that he was an outsider. His choice to send others shows both humility and a practical understanding of cultural relationships. What happens next in the story reveals something remarkable about this man's faith.
