What does Luke 7:20 mean?
John the Baptist, imprisoned and facing execution, is wrestling with doubt. He had boldly announced Jesus as God's chosen one, yet now finds himself languishing in a cell while Jesus teaches and heals. So John sends messengers to ask directly: are you really the one we've been waiting for, or have we missed something? This question resonates with anyone who has felt confused about God's plans or disappointed when faith doesn't look the way we expected. John had a clear picture of what the Messiah should do, and Jesus's gentle, redemptive approach didn't match it. Rather than condemning John's doubt, Jesus responds by pointing to his works: the blind see, the lame walk, the dead are raised. He invites John to reconsider what salvation actually means.
