What does Luke 6:29 mean?
Jesus is calling us into a radically different way of responding to those who harm us. Instead of defending ourselves or seeking revenge, he invites us to disarm conflict with generosity and refusal to escalate. When someone wrongs us, our instinct is often to protect what's ours and strike back, but Jesus suggests that sometimes the most powerful response is to keep giving, keep opening ourselves, keep refusing to harden our hearts. This doesn't mean we're supposed to be doormats or enable abuse, but rather that we can choose not to let injury turn us into people consumed by bitterness. When we're willing to offer the other cheek instead of matching violence, or give more instead of clinging tighter, we're saying that our relationship with God and our own inner peace matter more to us than proving a point or getting even. It's an invitation to freedom, even in the midst of being wronged.
