Luke 6:24
““But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation.”
What does Luke 6:24 mean?
Jesus isn't condemning wealth itself here, but rather warning people who believe their money and possessions are enough to satisfy their deepest needs. When he says they've already "received their consolation," he means they've already gotten whatever comfort and security they're counting on, and there's nothing left for them to receive from God's kingdom. This is a hard saying because it points out a spiritual trap: when we feel secure and content with what we have in this world, we can forget that we're made for something more lasting. Jesus is essentially saying, "If earthly comfort is all you're living for, that's all you'll ever have, and you'll miss out on real transformation and connection with God." The "woe" is compassionate concern, like a warning to someone headed toward empty disappointment.
