What does Luke 4:10 mean?
Jesus is quoting Psalm 91 here to resist Satan's temptation in the wilderness. Satan had just dared Jesus to throw himself off the temple, suggesting that God's angels would catch him, making it a test of faith. Jesus's response reminds us that God's protection is real and trustworthy, but it's never meant to be used as an excuse to deliberately put ourselves in harm's way or to demand proof from God through reckless behavior. This promise of angelic care speaks to something deeply comforting: you're not alone or abandoned, especially when life feels dangerous or uncertain. But it's a promise meant to give us courage to live faithfully, not permission to be foolish. God guards us, yet that guardianship works alongside wisdom and prudent choices.
