What does Luke 24:29 mean?
These disciples on the road to Emmaus don't yet realize they've been walking with the risen Jesus, though something about his presence has stirred their hearts. When evening approaches and he acts as if he'll continue on, they instinctively reach out and ask him to stay. There's a beautiful openness in their invitation, a simple hospitality offered to what seems like a stranger. What happens next matters deeply: Jesus accepts. He comes inside, breaks bread with them, and in that moment they finally recognize him. Their urgent plea to not be left alone becomes the doorway to one of scripture's most tender encounters with the risen Christ. The passage reminds us that sometimes Jesus draws near in our ordinary moments, and sometimes all we need to do is genuinely welcome him in.
