What does Luke 24:23 mean?
On the morning after Jesus' crucifixion, some women went to his tomb expecting to anoint his body—a Jewish burial custom. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and no body inside. When they encountered angels there, they were told Jesus had risen, and they rushed back to tell the disciples what they'd seen and heard. This verse captures that moment of bewildering joy: the absence of a body combined with the presence of heavenly messengers announcing resurrection. For the disciples hearing this report, it was almost too much to believe, yet it became the foundation of everything Christian faith would become.
