What does Luke 23:50 mean?
Joseph of Arimathea appears at one of the darkest moments of the gospel, right after Jesus dies on the cross. He's described as both a council member (meaning he had power and status) and as genuinely good and righteous, which Luke emphasizes to show us he wasn't just going through the motions. What makes him remarkable is that despite his position, he's about to do something costly: he will ask Pilate for Jesus' body and give it an honorable burial, treating the condemned criminal with dignity when most others have abandoned him.
