What does Luke 23:38 mean?
The sign placed above Jesus during his crucifixion was intentionally written in the three major languages of that time and place, so that as many people as possible would read it. What started as a cruel mockery by Pilate, meant to shame Jesus by labeling him a failed king, ended up broadcasting his identity to everyone who passed by. The irony is sharp: those responsible for his execution unwittingly proclaimed the truth about who he was, even as they meant it as an insult.
