What does Luke 20:8 mean?

Jesus had just been challenged by religious leaders who demanded to know where his authority came from, and this was his refusal to answer them directly. Rather than defend himself or engage in debate, he simply said he wouldn't explain it. This wasn't evasion born from weakness, but a clear boundary: he wasn't obligated to satisfy their questioning when their real motivation was to trap him, not to understand. Sometimes wisdom means refusing to perform for those who aren't genuinely seeking truth, and letting your work speak for itself instead.
