What does Luke 20:11 mean?
In this parable Jesus tells about a vineyard owner who keeps sending servants to collect what's owed to him, but the tenants mistreat each servant in turn. This servant is the second one sent, and the pattern of rejection repeats, each time with fresh cruelty. The "empty" part is key, because it shows the servants return with nothing, having failed their mission and suffered for trying. Jesus is really describing what happens when people reject God's messengers throughout history, but also painting a picture of how rejection and abuse can feel relentless when you're on the receiving end.
