Luke 20:10
“At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty.”
What does Luke 20:10 mean?
When the vineyard's owner finally asks for what belongs to him, the farmers respond with violence instead of fairness. This moment shows us how people can become so attached to what they're managing that they forget they don't actually own it, and how easily we can justify wronging others when we feel threatened. Jesus tells this parable to the religious leaders who have begun to see God's kingdom as something they control rather than something they're called to steward with humility. The beaten servant foreshadows what will happen to Jesus himself, though many in the crowd didn't yet understand that he was describing his own fate.
