What does Luke 2:7 mean?
Mary's humble circumstances at Jesus's birth reflect the reality of being a poor, displaced family with nowhere else to go. The detail about wrapping him in cloth bands and laying him in a manger (an animal's feeding trough) would have been ordinary care for a newborn in that time, yet the Gospel writer emphasizes these simple acts to show us that God entered the world in complete vulnerability and ordinariness, not in royal comfort.
