What does Luke 2:16 mean?
The shepherds, having heard the angel's announcement of Jesus's birth, rush to Bethlehem and discover the scene exactly as they were told: a newborn lying in a manger (a feeding trough for animals). There's something profound in this detail. The Son of God isn't born in a palace or temple, but in a borrowed stable, cradled not in fine linens but in the very place where animals ate. It speaks to how Jesus entered the world in humble circumstances, meeting people where they were. For those shepherds, those considered the lowest of the low in that society, this humble birth made the good news feel real and accessible, not distant or grand.
