What does Luke 18:17 mean?
Jesus is saying that entering God's Kingdom requires a particular kind of openness and trust that children naturally embody. A child typically approaches life with wonder, dependency, and acceptance rather than skepticism or the need to understand everything first. They don't try to earn love or prove their worth; they simply receive care and belonging as gifts. When life has worn us down with disappointment or made us cynical about what's possible, we often lose this receptive quality. We want to negotiate the terms, figure things out on our own, or convince ourselves we don't need help. But Jesus points us back toward something simpler: the willingness to receive what God offers without demanding to understand it completely or deserve it first. It's not about becoming childish, but about recovering that capacity to trust and accept grace when it's freely given.
