What does Luke 17:5 mean?

The disciples here are asking Jesus for something they sense they desperately need. They've been watching him teach and heal, and they're beginning to understand how much trust in God their calling will require. This simple request shows both their honesty about their limitations and their confidence that Jesus can actually give them what they're asking for. What makes this touching is that they don't ask for more knowledge, more power, or clearer instructions. They ask for faith, which is the ability to trust God even when circumstances look impossible. Jesus responds by telling them that even tiny faith can accomplish remarkable things, suggesting that what matters isn't the size of their faith but the reality of it and where it's placed. If you've ever felt your faith faltering in hard times, this moment shows that recognizing your need and bringing it to Jesus is exactly what he welcomes.
