Luke 17:3
“Be careful. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.”
What does Luke 17:3 mean?
Jesus is calling us to a mature kind of love that doesn't shy away from honest conversation. When someone we're close to hurts us or does wrong, staying silent isn't actually kindness, it's often just avoidance. The challenging part is the rebuke, which means speaking up directly and with care about what went wrong. But notice the beautiful balance: we're not meant to hold grudges or write people off. The moment someone shows genuine sorrow for what they've done, forgiveness is our response. This protects relationships from festering resentment while also giving real accountability a chance to work. It's the way of both honesty and mercy.
