What does Luke 17:11 mean?

Jesus was traveling toward Jerusalem, moving through territory that sat between two regions. Samaria and Galilee were neighboring areas with some tension between them, and this detail shows Jesus deliberately moving through contested or uncomfortable space rather than taking an easier route. This small geographical note becomes meaningful because the very next verses describe Jesus encountering ten people with leprosy in this border region, including a Samaritan. By traveling through places where people of different backgrounds lived together, Jesus was positioned to encounter and heal someone from a group that his own culture often rejected. It's a quiet reminder that Jesus didn't isolate himself in safe, familiar territory, but went where broken people actually were.
