What does Luke 14:15 mean?
Someone at dinner with Jesus couldn't help imagining the joy of God's Kingdom, picturing it as a grand feast where the blessed are finally gathered together. It's a beautiful impulse, really, this hope that ultimate happiness looks like abundance and celebration with God. But Jesus is about to complicate this happy thought with a parable about the actual cost of saying yes to that invitation, because accepting God's Kingdom isn't just about showing up to enjoy the blessings, it's about being willing to leave behind whatever holds us back. The comment itself isn't wrong, but it reveals how easy it is to celebrate the idea of God's Kingdom while missing the harder part: what it actually asks of us to get there.
