“On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, “Get out of here, and go away, for Herod wants to kill you.””
What does Luke 13:31 mean?
The Pharisees here are actually warning Jesus, not attacking him directly. Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, felt threatened by Jesus's popularity and influence, so these religious leaders came to Jesus to tell him to leave the region for his own safety. It's a surprisingly human moment—even people who disagreed with Jesus recognized the real danger he faced from political power. Jesus's response to this warning (in the next verse) shows his remarkable courage and trust in God's purpose, refusing to be intimidated into abandoning his mission.
