What does Luke 13:16 mean?
Jesus is defending his decision to heal a disabled woman on the Sabbath, when Jewish law traditionally forbade work. He's pointing out that the religious leaders who are criticizing him have missed something obvious: a person's freedom and dignity matter more than rigid rule-following. By calling her "a daughter of Abraham," he's affirming her full membership in God's covenant people, which makes her suffering and restoration deeply significant. His question isn't really a question at all—it's a way of saying that compassion and healing are never a violation of God's true purpose, even when they happen on a day meant for rest.
