Luke 12:7
“But the very hairs of your head are all counted. Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.”
What does Luke 12:7 mean?
Jesus is reassuring us that God knows us with intimate, meticulous care. The image of hair being counted isn't meant literally, but rather emphasizes that nothing about you escapes God's attention, not even the smallest details. He then points to sparrows—creatures of little apparent importance—to show us that even these get God's care, so how much more valuable are you, made in his image? The message lands differently depending on where you are: if you're anxious about your circumstances, Jesus is saying God sees what you're going through. If you feel overlooked or unimportant, he's reminding you that you matter deeply to the one who holds everything together.
