Luke 12:5
“But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him, who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna. Yes, I tell you, fear him.”
What does Luke 12:5 mean?
Jesus is talking about God here, and he's making an important distinction about what deserves our deepest respect and reverence. He's saying that while we might worry about what people can do to us, God alone has the authority over our eternal fate, so our primary allegiance and awe should belong to him. This isn't about being terrified in an unhealthy way, but rather about recognizing that God's judgment matters infinitely more than human approval or rejection. When we understand that God sees everything and holds the final say in what matters most, it actually frees us from the paralyzing fear of what others might do or think of us.
