Luke 12:39
“But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not allowed his house to be broken into.”
What does Luke 12:39 mean?
Jesus is reminding us that we can't predict when big changes or challenges will arrive in life, so staying spiritually alert matters more than we might realize. The point isn't really about thieves and houses, but about readiness: if we knew exactly when we'd face temptation, loss, or the end of our earthly life, we'd naturally be more careful and prepared. Since we don't know that timing, we're invited to live with ongoing awareness and faith rather than waiting until crisis forces us to pay attention. It's an encouragement to tend to what matters most before circumstances demand it of us.
