Luke 1:4

What does Luke 1:4 mean?
Luke is writing to his friend Theophilus (whose name means "lover of God") to give him solid ground to stand on. Rather than just passing along half-remembered stories or secondhand accounts, Luke wants Theophilus to have confidence that what he's learned about Jesus is actually reliable and true. This matters especially when faith gets tested or when someone questions what you believe. Luke is saying that careful investigation and orderly writing aren't dry academic exercises, but acts of love. When we truly know why we believe something and can trace it back to trustworthy witnesses, our faith becomes stronger, steadier, and better able to weather doubt.
