Leviticus 7:8
“The priest who offers any man’s burnt offering, even the priest shall have for himself the skin of the burnt offering which he has offered.”
What does Leviticus 7:8 mean?
In the sacrificial system of ancient Israel, when someone brought an animal to be offered at the altar, the meat was largely burned as an offering to God, but the priest received a portion as payment for his service. This verse specifies that the priest gets to keep the animal's skin, which was valuable and could be used for leather goods. It's a practical way of saying that those who serve in religious duties deserve to be supported and compensated by the community they serve. The principle still speaks to us today: people who dedicate themselves to spiritual leadership and care for others merit provision and respect.
