Leviticus 7:2
“In the place where they kill the burnt offering, he shall kill the trespass offering; and its blood he shall sprinkle around on the altar.”
What does Leviticus 7:2 mean?
The priest would offer a trespass offering (also called a guilt offering) when someone had wronged another person or broken their covenant with God—this was how they made things right. The specific instructions about where and how to kill the animal and sprinkle its blood were deeply meaningful: they showed that this wasn't a casual or careless act, but a serious, intentional turning away from harm. The blood, in Old Testament thinking, represented life itself, and sprinkling it on the altar was a way of saying that making things right required something costly and real. For us today, even though we don't make animal sacrifices, the principle still speaks: genuine repentance and restoration with God and others isn't supposed to be easy or thoughtless, but rather something we approach with full commitment.
