Leviticus 5:15
““If anyone commits a trespass, and sins unwittingly, in the holy things of Yahweh; then he shall bring his trespass offering to Yahweh, a ram without defect from the flock, according to your estimation in silver by shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering.”
What does Leviticus 5:15 mean?
When someone accidentally misused something sacred or failed in a duty to God, this passage describes how they could make things right. They'd bring a perfect ram as a sacrifice, and if they couldn't afford that, they could pay its equivalent value in silver instead. The point wasn't punishment for the mistake itself, but restoration: acknowledging the wrong and actively doing something to repair the relationship. What's comforting here is that the system made room for honest accidents. God recognized the difference between deliberate rebellion and the mistakes we make when we're trying but fall short. The requirement of a quality offering (without defect) showed that making things right matters and deserves real sacrifice on our part, but the pathway itself was always available and clear.
