What does Leviticus 4:9 mean?
This verse describes the specific internal organs that were to be removed and burned as part of certain Old Testament sacrifices. The kidneys and the fat surrounding them, along with a membrane covering the liver, were considered the richest, most valuable parts of the animal and were therefore offered to God. By requiring these particular organs rather than just any portion, the law ensured that worshippers were giving God something genuinely precious, not simply their leftovers. The detail might seem clinical to us, but it reflected an understanding that authentic worship costs something and involves offering what matters most.
