Leviticus 4:15
“The elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before Yahweh; and the bull shall be killed before Yahweh.”
What does Leviticus 4:15 mean?
When someone in leadership made an unintentional mistake that affected the whole community, the elders would physically place their hands on the sacrificial animal, symbolically transferring the guilt to it. This act acknowledged their responsibility as leaders and showed that the wrong they'd caused was serious enough to require a life. The ritual made it concrete and visible: the animal died in their place, carrying away what they couldn't fix on their own.
