What does Leviticus 3:1 mean?
A peace offering was a voluntary gift to God, often made to celebrate thanksgiving or to restore right relationship after a wrong had been made. Unlike some sacrifices that dealt with sin, this one was about drawing closer to God and sharing a meal with the community afterward, which made it feel more like a celebration than payment for wrongdoing. The requirement that the animal be without defect wasn't about God being picky, but rather a recognition that what we offer to God deserves to be our best. It expressed the seriousness of coming before God and the value of the relationship being honored. Whether someone brought a male or female animal didn't matter, showing that this practice was open and inclusive regardless of circumstances.
