What does Leviticus 25:3 mean?
For six years, the Israelites were instructed to work their land as normal, planting crops and tending vineyards to harvest food for their families. This wasn't a command to *stop* working or to neglect their fields, but rather the first part of a rhythm that included a seventh year of rest for the land itself. The passage is laying out the practical reality that meaningful provision requires consistent effort and care, which makes what comes in the seventh year (when the land would lie fallow) all the more significant as an act of faith and trust in God's provision.
