What does Leviticus 25:20 mean?

This verse captures a real worry people would have faced when God commanded them to let their land rest every seventh year. They're essentially asking: if we don't plant or harvest, how will we survive? It's the voice of practical concern meeting a countercultural command. The setup is important: God promised that in the sixth year, the land would produce enough to sustain them through the seventh year of rest and into the eighth year's first harvest. But notice how the question shows doubt creeping in, the way it does for us too when we're asked to step back from our usual scrambling.
