What does Leviticus 25:15 mean?

In ancient Israel, land wasn't meant to be owned permanently by any family, since God considered himself the true owner. So when someone sold their land, the price depended on how many years remained before the Year of Jubilee, when all land returned to its original owners. If the Jubilee was close, the price would be lower since the buyer would have less time to benefit from the crops. This system protected families from losing their inheritance forever through poverty or debt, while also keeping land sales fair and honest. It's a practical reminder that God built justice into their economic system, ensuring that hardship wouldn't become permanent.
