“According to the number of years after the Jubilee you shall buy from your neighbor. According to the number of years of the crops he shall sell to you.”
What does Leviticus 25:15 mean?
In ancient Israel, land wasn't meant to be owned permanently by any family, since God considered himself the true owner. So when someone sold their land, the price depended on how many years remained before the Year of Jubilee, when all land returned to its original owners. If the Jubilee was close, the price would be lower since the buyer would have less time to benefit from the crops.
