Leviticus 25:10

You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you; and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.

What does Leviticus 25:10 mean?

Every fifty years, God called Israel to hit the reset button through the Year of Jubilee. Debts were forgiven, slaves were freed, and land sold during hard times went back to its original owners, so families could start fresh. This wasn't just economic policy; it was a statement that God cared about fairness and didn't want anyone permanently trapped by circumstances or debt. The word "liberty" here carries the weight it does in our founding documents because those documents deliberately drew from this ancient vision of freedom and restoration.
