Leviticus 19:23
““‘When you come into the land, and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. Three years they shall be forbidden to you. It shall not be eaten.”
What does Leviticus 19:23 mean?
When the Israelites settled in their new land, God gave them a practical rule about newly planted fruit trees: don't harvest them for the first three years. This wasn't arbitrary cruelty to hungry farmers, but wisdom that let young trees strengthen their root systems before bearing fruit. A tree forced to produce too early exhausts itself and yields less in the long run. Beyond the practical side, this command taught patience and trust. The people had to care for trees for years before receiving anything back, which required faith that God would provide through other means in the meantime. It's a reminder that some of life's best things, whether a healthy orchard or a solid foundation for anything we're building, can't be rushed.
