What does Leviticus 18:28 mean?

The land itself becomes sick when people persistently break God's moral boundaries, and God won't tolerate that corruption indefinitely. This vivid image of the earth "vomiting out" its inhabitants reflects an ancient understanding that sin doesn't just offend God in an abstract way, but actually poisons the community and environment where it takes root. God is warning the Israelites that they can't inherit the promised land and then treat it as a moral dumping ground without consequence. The warning carries real weight: the same judgment that expelled previous inhabitants will apply to them if they follow the same destructive patterns.
