What does Leviticus 10:17 mean?
After a tragic incident where two of Aaron's sons died during worship, Moses is confronting Aaron about why he didn't eat part of the sin offering as the priests were supposed to do. The uneaten offering represented a missed opportunity to participate in the sacred work of removing the people's guilt before God. This reveals something profound about how ancient Israelites understood forgiveness: it wasn't just about going through motions or following rules, but about priests actively engaging with the sacrificial system on behalf of their community. By eating the offering, the priest took on symbolic responsibility for the people's wrongdoing and their restoration.
