What does Judges 8:6 mean?
The men of Succoth are refusing to help Gideon's exhausted army because they don't yet see victory as certain. Zebah and Zalmunna were Midianite kings who were still at large, so these officials reasoned: "Why should we risk helping you when you haven't even defeated them yet? We're not backing a losing cause." It's a moment of fear disguised as logic, showing how people often withhold support or kindness until they can see a guaranteed outcome. The refusal reveals how hard it can be to trust and help someone in the middle of their struggle, before the ending is known.
