What does Judges 8:35 mean?

After Gideon led Israel to a stunning military victory and freed them from oppression, the people quickly forgot what he had done for them. When Gideon died, his family fell into danger and hardship, and no one stepped in to help or protect them, even though Gideon had risked everything for the nation's freedom. This verse captures a painful human reality: we often forget those who've sacrificed for us once the crisis has passed and life returns to normal. It's a gentle reminder that gratitude and loyalty matter, and that turning our backs on people who've helped us leaves a mark on our own character.
