What does Judges 8:34 mean?

After the judge Gideon died, the people of Israel quickly forgot how God had rescued them from the threats surrounding their land. Instead of remaining grateful and faithful, they slipped back into old patterns of unfaithfulness. This verse captures a heartbreaking human tendency: when times are good and we're not in immediate danger, it's easy to stop thinking about the One who helped us through hard times. The writer is setting up a painful cycle that repeats throughout Judges, where the people's forgetfulness leads them away from God and into trouble again.
