Judges 6:1
“The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight: and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.”
What does Judges 6:1 mean?
When the Israelites turned away from God and did what was wrong, God allowed them to face real consequences. The Midianites, a neighboring people, invaded and oppressed them for seven years, making life hard and uncertain. This wasn't arbitrary punishment but the natural result of their choices, and it set up a situation where the people would eventually cry out for help. Sometimes we experience difficult seasons precisely because we've wandered from what we know is right, and those hard times can be what finally turns us back around.
